Ondo State Faces Showdown Over FAAC Funds as Aiyedatiwa and LG Chairmen Clash

A potential clash looms in Ondo State as Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and 18 elected local government chairmen may collide over the control of monthly FAAC funds. The AGGA has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and enforce financial independence for the 774 local governments in Nigeria.

Despite a Supreme Court ruling granting financial autonomy to local government councils in July 2024, the chairmen in Ondo State still lack full control over funds, allegedly being compelled to return portions to the state Ministry of Local Government Chieftaincy Affairs. This intervention comes amidst accusations of the state government flouting the Supreme Court ruling, leading to a lack of autonomy and inadequate funds for local government projects.
