Showunmi Critiques Ogun APC's Consensus as Imposition

Otunba Segun Showunmi, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), condemned the consensus decision made by the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the governorship candidacy for the upcoming elections. He characterized this move as "state capture" and a "crude imposition," urging residents to reject it.

The APC had adopted Solomon Adeola as their consensus candidate during a meeting held on Monday at the party's secretariat in Abeokuta, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun. Showunmi argued that the political process is being manipulated, eroding the long-standing reputation of Ogun State for independent thought.

He emphasized that the consensus lacks foundational integrity and warned that it represents an attempt to impose control over the state without demonstrating a credible record of public service. Showunmi called for a resistance against this political arrangement, asserting that the people of Ogun State should not accept such impositions that threaten their democratic rights.
