Sierra Leone Honors Nigerian Generals for Peace Efforts

On the 17th Armed Forces Day celebration in Freetown, Sierra Leone, President Julius Maada Bio conferred national honors on two senior Nigerian military officers, General Olufemi Oluyede and former Chief of Defence Staff Martin Luther Agwai. The awards recognized their significant contributions to regional peace and stability, particularly during Sierra Leone's civil war from 1992 to 1994, when they served under the Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG).

General Oluyede acknowledged the efforts of the Nigerian military in restoring peace and safeguarding Sierra Leone's sovereignty. The ceremony also honored four other officers from different countries, including Daniel Opand from Kenya, Ibrahim Sori Bangoura from Guinea, Paul Roger from the United States, and Edward Butler from the United Kingdom.

The event highlighted the enduring appreciation for the Nigerian Armed Forces' sacrifices and contributions to regional security during a critical period in Sierra Leone's history.
