Singer Sean Kingston sentenced to 3.5 years in jail over $1m fraud

Singer Sean Kingston has been sentenced to 3.5 years in jail for his involvement in a $1 million fraud scheme. Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Paul Anderson, was convicted alongside his mother, Janice Eleanor Turner, in March on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud.

Turner was sentenced to five years in prison last month. Prosecutors revealed that Kingston used his celebrity status to obtain luxury items, such as a bulletproof Cadillac Escalade and a luxury watch, without paying for them.

The court records showed that he presented falsified wire transfer receipts to deceive sellers. District Judge David Leibowitz ordered Kingston to be immediately remanded after sentencing in a South Florida courtroom.

Prosecutors described Kingston as a thief and conman who exploited his fame to defraud victims over several years. Defense attorney Zeljka Bozanic argued that Kingston, 35, lacked financial discipline but had begun repaying the victims.
