AAC Criticizes Governor Soludo Over Onitsha Market Closure, Urges Reopening for Citizen Welfare

The African Action Congress (AAC) in Anambra State has condemned Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo for the abrupt closure of the Onitsha market.

The State Public Secretary of AAC, Chinedu Anthony, criticized the decision, stating that it was made without adequate consideration for the welfare of traders and residents, leaving vulnerable citizens at greater risk. The AAC argued that prioritizing security over traders' livelihoods is illogical and urged the state government to focus on citizen security rather than just protecting politicians.

Soludo's order to shut down the market came after traders defied an earlier directive to open on a Monday, leading to penalties for perceived economic sabotage. The AAC emphasized the need for the government to engage stakeholders, address insecurity effectively, and reopen the market promptly to safeguard citizens' welfare.
