Anambra Governor Orders Onitsha Market Shutdown Over Sit-at-Home Non-Compliance

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has directed the immediate closure of Onitsha main market for one week to address economic sabotage resulting from traders' non-compliance with the sit-at-home order. The shutdown, effective from Monday, aims to enforce adherence to the directive and warns of legal and regulatory sanctions for any involvement in promoting the order's defiance.

The government emphasizes the need to protect traders and maintain public safety amidst concerns of criminal activities exploiting the situation. The closure's extension beyond a week is possible if the market fails to fully reopen by the specified deadline.

Governor Soludo also cautions civil servants against refusing to work on Mondays and assures residents of adequate security measures to safeguard lives and property. The move seeks to restore economic activities while deterring actions that undermine public safety and business investments in Anambra State.
