Anambra Governor Shuts Onitsha Market Over Sit-at-Home Compliance

Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has directed the immediate closure of Onitsha Main Market in Nigeria for one week in response to traders' continued compliance with the illegal Monday sit-at-home directive. Despite warnings, traders have persisted in observing the sit-at-home order, leading to economic disruptions across Anambra State.

The closure is intended to restore economic sanity and ensure compliance with the law. The government has warned that failure to fully reopen the market after the one-week closure may result in an extended shutdown.

Security agencies have been placed on alert to enforce compliance and protect traders. Governor Soludo has also warned civil servants who fail to report to work on Mondays of sanctions, including non-payment of salaries.
