IPOB's Sit-at-Home Order Sparks Tensions in Southeast Nigeria

In Southeast Nigeria, a potential showdown looms between IPOB and security agencies due to a sit-at-home order declared by IPOB for February 2, 2026. The order has caused tension and confusion, with Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo ordering the closure of the Onitsha main market.

Despite warnings, some traders refused to comply with the order, leading to a directive from Soludo to revoke their shop ownership rights if they fail to open for business on Monday. IPOB's spokesperson, Emma Powerful, called for solidarity strikes across the region, while the group's leadership publicly disowned the sit-at-home order, labeling it as fake and misleading.

Anambra State Police Command, led by Ikioy Orutugu, assured residents of safety measures and intensified patrols to maintain law and order. The police in Ebonyi State, represented by spokesperson Joshua Ukandu, also put measures in place to protect lives and properties.
