Anambra Shuts Nkwo Nnewi Market for Non-Compliance

The Anambra State Government has announced the closure of the Nkwo Nnewi auto spare parts market for one week, effective from midnight on February 23, 2026, following traders' failure to comply with a sit-at-home order issued by Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.

The order was given during a site visit to the market, where it was noted that traders disregarded the directive. Evarist Uba, the market chief, and AVM Ben Chiobi (rtd), the chairman of the Nnewi local government area, communicated this closure on behalf of the governor.

The market is expected to reopen on March 2, 2026, contingent upon improved compliance with the state's directives. The government has advised traders and customers to avoid the market until it reopens to prevent issues with law enforcement.

This closure follows a similar action taken against the Onitsha main market for the same reasons earlier in January 2026.
