Duke of Shomolu Foundation's 2026 Season Puts Women at the Forefront of Nigerian Theater

The Duke of Shomolu Foundation unveils its groundbreaking 2026 theater season showcasing six plays created by women from Nigeria's six geopolitical zones. This initiative marks a significant cultural milestone for the foundation, which has historically produced plays predominantly by men.

The season will feature works such as "Kokoro Blind Minstrel," "Easter Dora," "Makamba," "Hafsatu," "Dein Agbor," and "Princess Inikpi," each reflecting diverse cultural, historical, and social narratives from different regions of Nigeria. Notable figures like Professor Dora Nkem Akunyili, former NAFDAC Director-General, will be honored through the season.

The foundation's CEO, Mr. Mofoluwak Edgar, emphasizes the importance of celebrating and empowering female creative voices in Nigerian theater, with a focus on storytelling and leadership.

The season aims to elevate women's stories and experiences, with a deliberate effort to have a 70% female cast and crew across productions.
