Rivers Assembly Reviews Fubara's N1.8tn Budget Proposal

The Rivers State House of Assembly commenced the review of Governor Siminalayi Fubara's N1.8 trillion budget on Tuesday, following a delay of over one month. The budget was initially presented on July 10.

During the plenary session, the House, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, conducted a second reading of the bill. House leader Major Jack moved the motion for the second reading.

Deputy Speaker Dumle Maol described the budget as ambitious and the highest ever proposed in the state's history. He urged fellow lawmakers to scrutinize the budget allocations to ensure proper utilization of funds.

Other legislators echoed the call for a swift passage of the budget. The Speaker also indicated the need for the House to investigate non-governmental organizations and institutions that have received state funding.

The House adjourned its sitting until September 3.
