Smith Advocates for State Police to Boost Security

Smith, born on April 17, 1946, in Lagos State, advocates for the establishment of state police as a means to improve Nigeria's internal security. He believes that a strong internal security framework will lead to economic stability.

Smith's educational background includes attending Ansar Ud Deen Primary School and Ansar Ud Deen College, Isolo, before joining the Nigeria Police Force in 1972, where he rose to the rank of Inspector General of Police (IGP) before retiring in 2002. He served as a member of the Provisional Ruling Council under General Abdul Salam Abubakar until the return to civilian governance in 1999.

Smith stresses the need for adequate investment in education and security agencies to combat issues such as poverty, inflation, and youth disenfranchisement, which contribute to insecurity.
