Nigeria's Federal Government Advocates for State Police

On Thursday, during a courtesy visit to the Crisis Communication Committee (CCC) led by Chris Olukolade in Abuja, Alhaji Moham Idri, the Minister of Information, stated that Nigeria is now ready for the establishment of state police. He emphasized the necessity of a legal framework to facilitate this initiative, which he believes is crucial for addressing the country's evolving security challenges.

Idri appealed to the National Assembly to enact the required legislation to enable police reform, highlighting that decentralizing police forces is imperative for improving national security. He also welcomed the CCC's proposal to establish a national crisis communication hub and discussed the importance of digital innovation in crisis communication.

The Minister noted that the ongoing reforms and the recommendations from the symposium held in November 2025 would enhance the capacity of government institutions and strengthen public trust.
