Nigerian Senate Calls for Mandatory Antivenom in Hospitals After Rising Singer Dies from Snakebite

The Nigerian Senate, led by Senate President Godswil Akpabio, has called for the mandatory availability of antivenom in both public and private hospitals across the country. This call comes after the death of Ifunanya Luci Nwangen, a 26-year-old singer who was fatally bitten by a snake in Abuja.

The Senate emphasized the need for early access to medical care, especially in high-risk regions, to prevent deaths from snakebites and other venomous incidents. Senator Adebul Idiat Oluranti highlighted the urgency for federal and state governments to ensure an adequate stock of antivenom and access to life-saving antidotes in emergency situations nationwide.

The motion also addressed the rising medical emergencies in Nigeria, including snakebites, scorpion stings, and drug overdoses, emphasizing the importance of timely and effective medical treatment for victims.
