Presidential Villa's Peter Onwubuariri Passes Away at 48

Peter Chukwuemeka Onwubuariri, aged 48, served as the Assistant Director of Information/Public Relations at the Presidential Villa in Abuja for 12 years, working under three Presidents: Goodluck Jonathan, Muhammadu Buhari, and Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He passed away on September 7, 2026, in a Kano hospital after a prolonged illness.

His work included drafting press releases, speeches, and strategic communications, which were largely unnoticed until his death. A presidential presser on September 8, 2026, and a statement from the Kano State Government brought national attention to his contributions, making him a recognized figure in media circles.

His mother, Florence Ewekechinyere Onwubuariri, mourned deeply for her only son, who had previously lost his father. Peter had traveled extensively for his health, seeking treatment in India and Egypt.

He was known for his dedication and work ethic, having previously served as the North American Correspondent for the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) before his appointment to the Villa in 2014.
