Bandits Kill Teacher and Family in Sokoto Ambush

On Wednesday, suspected bandits ambushed a vehicle along the Gundumi-Isa road in Sokoto State, resulting in the deaths of Maniru Sa’adu Imam, a 30-year-old newly recruited teacher, Abdurrahman Umar, the driver, and Umar's five-year-old son, Abubakar Abdurrahman. The victims were returning to Isa Local Government Area after a salary verification exercise in Sokoto metropolis.
A witness, Malam Kabiru Isa, reported that the victims were traveling behind a convoy under security escort when the attack occurred. The convoy had departed around 4pm, but some vehicles, including that of the victims, returned to a meeting point after other members had left.
The security personnel escorting the convoy spotted the bandits and opened fire, but the assailants later ambushed vehicles behind the convoy. Three people were killed, three others injured, and one passenger remains missing.
Imam had not yet received his first salary at the time of his death and had traveled for the verification exercise required for salary payments.
