Teacher Maniru Sa’adu Imam Killed in Sokoto Ambush

Maniru Sa’adu Imam, a 30-year-old newly recruited teacher, was killed in an ambush by suspected bandits along the Gundumi-Isa road in Sokoto State. He was traveling with Abdurrahman Umar, the driver, and his five-year-old son, Abubakar Abdurrahman, after attending a salary verification exercise in Sokoto metropolis.
The attack occurred on Wednesday when the victims were traveling behind a convoy under heavy security escort. A witness, Malam Kabiru Isa, reported that the convoy departed at about 4pm, but some vehicles, including the one carrying the victims, returned to their meeting point after being urged to leave early.
As the convoy approached Gundumi, security personnel spotted the bandits and opened fire, causing them to flee. However, the assailants later ambushed the vehicles behind the convoy, resulting in the deaths of Imam, Umar, and his son, while three others were injured and one passenger went missing.
Imam had not yet received his first salary and had traveled for the verification exercise ahead of payment. The deceased were buried on Thursday morning.
