Ahmad Aliyu Apologizes to Wamakko, Sparks Political Debate

Sokoto State Governor Ahmad Aliyu has come under scrutiny for publicly apologizing to former Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko. This gesture occurred during a party event at the APC state secretariat, where Aliyu sought forgiveness, stating he had not wronged anyone during his two years and 11 months in office.

The apology has ignited a debate among Sokoto residents and political analysts, with Dr. Ibrahim Baba Shatambaya suggesting it reflects a political strategy to maintain loyalty to Wamakko, who continues to wield significant influence in Sokoto politics.

Alhaji Cika Mairago, ADC governor, interpreted the apology as an attempt to secure political support from Wamakko. Naziru Maikulki from the ADC described the gesture as a strategy to gain public sympathy, reminiscent of tactics used in past campaigns.

The political landscape in Sokoto remains heavily influenced by Wamakko, and the dynamics of loyalty and respect are critical as the 2027 elections approach.
