Soludo Appoints Mother of Slain Businessman as Commissioner

Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo appointed Esther Chinyer Onyekesi, the mother of the slain businessman Martin Onyekesi, as the Commissioner for Women’s Affairs.

This appointment is part of a larger list of 18 nominees submitted to the Anambra State House of Assembly for screening. Martin Onyekesi was murdered last year during a kidnapping incident that sparked widespread protests, including those led by social media activist Martin Vincent Ots, known as Dark Man.

Despite the political implications surrounding the incident, the appointment was described as non-political. The list of nominees includes four former commissioners and several new appointees across various ministries, such as Dr.

Ben Chuk Odoemena for Agriculture and Dr. Eken Ogugua for Education.

The first batch of nominees was confirmed during a plenary session on Tuesday, with Hon. Somtochukwu Nkem Udez receiving the list from Franklin Osankwa, the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly.
