Anambra Governor Soludo Bans Graduation Ceremonies

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has approved an indefinite ban on graduation ceremonies in kindergarten, primary, and secondary schools across the state to reduce financial burdens on parents.

This directive was confirmed by the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, in a statement issued on Friday.

The ban encompasses all graduation-related ceremonies in both public and private schools, including events termed graduation, passing-out, crossover, or any ceremony marking the completion of educational levels. However, students completing Senior Secondary School (SS3) are exempt from this directive, although such ceremonies are not compulsory and must not impose financial burdens on students or parents.

Schools that choose to hold these ceremonies must ensure no levies or hidden charges are demanded. The government warned that any school violating this directive could face severe penalties, including closure.

This policy aims to alleviate the financial pressure on families and refocus school activities on academic excellence rather than ceremonial events.
