Soludo Calls for Action Against Flooding in Anambra State

On Sunday, during Nigeria’s 66th independence anniversary at the Cathedral Church of St. Faith in Awka, Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, addressed the escalating issues of flooding and gully erosion in the state. He called for collective action from residents, urging them to take personal responsibility for their environment.

Soludo expressed condolences for the death of six-year-old Success Ezenwafor, who died in a recent flooding incident, highlighting the tragedy as a reminder of the importance of individual choices in addressing environmental challenges. He noted that the state government has invested tens of billions of naira without making significant progress on the issues.

Soludo encouraged citizens to manage water runoff, avoid blocking drainage systems, and engage in tree planting. He also reflected on Nigeria's progress since independence, stating that while improvements have been made, there is still much work to be done.
