South Africa Moves to Deport Miss SA Contestant Adetshina

South Africa's Department of Home Affairs is initiating fresh deportation proceedings against Chidimma Adetshina, a 25-year-old Nigerian who recently withdrew from the Miss South Africa pageant amid controversy over her citizenship. Adetshina, born in Soweto to a Nigerian father of Igbo descent and a Mozambican mother, has had her legal status in South Africa questioned.

She appeared in the Cape Town regional court on June 9, where her release was warned pending the continuation of her case, which is expected to resume next month. Adrian Jackson, an official from the Department of Home Affairs, filed an affidavit stating that Adetshina does not possess legal residency status in South Africa and has remained in the country in violation of immigration laws.

The court is set to authorize her detention to facilitate the deportation process, with a return hearing scheduled for next month.
