Ramaphosa Rejects Resignation Amid Impeachment Pressure

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has firmly rejected calls for his resignation as he faces renewed impeachment pressure linked to a cash heist scandal at his Phala Phala farm. The controversy resurfaced after a court ruling overturned Parliament's earlier decision to reject a 2022 report that found Ramaphosa may have committed serious violations of misconduct.

The 73-year-old president is accused of concealing a 2020 burglary at his luxury farm in Limpopo, where a large sum of foreign currency was allegedly stolen. Ramaphosa insists there are no grounds for his removal from office and has described the parliamentary report as flawed.

He confirmed that his office would seek a legal review of the panel's findings, which he disputes. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) challenged the parliamentary decision, leading to the constitutional court's order to refer the report to the impeachment committee.

Ramaphosa, a former anti-apartheid activist, maintains that his involvement in the scandal is legitimate and denies any wrongdoing.
