APC Pursues Consensus Candidates for 2027 Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) is moving towards establishing consensus candidates for the 2027 governorship elections in Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo states. The strategy aims to reduce internal conflicts and agree on widely accepted candidates for the primaries.

Key figures in this initiative include Lagos Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat and Ogun Senator Olamilekan Adeola, who is seen as a strong contender with significant party support. In Lagos, names such as Tunji Alausa, Akinwunmi Ambode, Hakeem Muri Okunola, and Tokunbo Abiru are circulating as potential candidates.

However, Ogun Governor Dapo Abiodun has a preference for Shaibu Salisu, which may slow the consensus process. In Oyo, Senator Sharafadeen Alli is favored among APC leaders.

The APC faces challenges from the People's Democratic Party (PDP), led by Governor Seyi Makinde, who is influential in the region. Analysts warn that achieving consensus will require genuine agreement among stakeholders to avoid future conflicts.
