Sowore Opens Defense, Risks Return to Kuje Prison

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has commenced his defense in a case that risks his return to Kuje Correctional Centre. On July 3, 2026, Justice Moham Umar ruled on Sowore's application regarding the execution of a bail revocation order, which required him to deposit a N200 million bail bond, submit his international passport, and provide two sureties with properties in Abuja.

The Department of State Services (DSS), represented by Akinlolu Kehind, argued that Sowore had not fulfilled the bail conditions, leading to a request for his remand. Sowore's lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide Fusika, requested an extension until July 10, 2026, to meet the bail conditions, which the court granted.

The matter has been adjourned until July 13, 2026, to allow Sowore time to comply with the court's requirements.
