Sowore Risks Prison Over Unmet Bail Conditions

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, faces the possibility of returning to Kuje Correctional Centre due to his failure to meet bail conditions set by Justice Moham Umar. Last Tuesday, the court granted Sowore bail under specific conditions, including a N200 million bail bond, the deposit of his international passport, and the provision of two sureties with land properties in Abuja.

During the court proceedings, Akinlolu Kehind, representing the Department of State Services, stated that Sowore had not fulfilled these conditions, leading to a request for his remand. Justice Umar initially granted Sowore a seven-day period to perfect his bail conditions, but as of the latest hearing, he had not complied.

Sowore's lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide Fusika, assured the court that the passport would be deposited by the close of work on Monday, but if conditions remain unmet, Sowore will be remanded until compliance.
