Soyinka Urges Tinubu to Address Unresolved Killings

During the 28th Wole Soyinka Lecture Series organized by the National Association of Seadogs in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka called on President Bola Tinubu to fulfill his 2023 promise to address unresolved cases of assassinations and extra-judicial killings in Nigeria.

Soyinka highlighted the need for justice for victims such as Deborah Samuel, murdered in Sokoto State in 2022, and Mene Ogidi, who was allegedly shot by a policeman in Delta State. He criticized the judiciary and citizens for their complicity in selective justice, contrasting the swift arrest of Ogidi's alleged killer with the lack of accountability in Samuel's case.

Soyinka dedicated the lecture to victims of state failures, including six policemen killed in Apo, Abuja, and urged Nigerians to demand justice, emphasizing that the silence surrounding these injustices is a crime in itself.
