Soyinka, Chidoka Call for Justice and Accountability in Nigeria

At the 28th Wole Soyinka Lecture Series and National Association of Seadogs (NAS) Martyrs’ Day in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Prof. Wole Soyinka, Chief Osita Chidoka, and Timi Alaibe urged Nigerians to reclaim the state through accountability, justice, and civic courage.

They emphasized that Nigeria's governance challenges cannot be resolved without ending impunity and restoring respect for human life. Soyinka dedicated the event to victims of state brutality and extrajudicial killings, lamenting the growing culture of impunity.

He called for justice for victims and accountability for perpetrators. Chidoka, delivering the keynote address, argued that Nigeria's main issue is not the absence of laws but the failure to enforce them impartially.

He criticized the "alibi culture" among officials and insisted that accountability must include correction and sanctions. Chidoka also dismissed the notion that restructuring alone would solve Nigeria's problems, asserting that constitutional reforms are necessary but not sufficient.
