Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka confirmed in 2016 that he rendered his US Green Card inoperable following Donald Trump's victory in the presidential election. Soyinka expressed his confusion over the decision during a press briefing at Oxford University's Ertegun House.

The renowned playwright and poet, known for his international acclaim, threw away his Green Card as a symbolic gesture. Additionally, Soyinka revealed an incident of being kidnapped and robbed in Bucharest, Romania, during an interview.
