SpaceX to Build $100 Billion Spaceport in Louisiana

On Tuesday, SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, announced plans to construct a $100 billion spaceport in Vermillion Parish, Louisiana, approximately 115 miles west of New Orleans. This facility aims to launch the Starship megarockets, which are currently under development at SpaceX's Texas Starbase.

The company committed to investing at least $100 billion and creating over 3,000 jobs in the region, with construction set to begin next year. The spaceport will feature extensive infrastructure to support thousands of Starship flights annually, with the first flight anticipated in 2029.

Musk stated that the site will include over a dozen launch towers, enabling more than 30 flights per day, potentially making it the largest launch site on Earth. The Louisiana Economic Development agency indicated that the average salary for workers at the facility would be 192 percent higher than the current mean wage in the region.

SpaceX also pledged to undertake efforts to preserve the coastline and protect local wildlife amidst concerns over environmental impacts.
