Spain Allows ID Card Entry for EU Citizens, Not Africans

The Spanish government has confirmed that citizens of all European Union member states can enter Spain using just a valid national identity card, without the need for a passport. This provision also extends to nationals from four non-EU European countries: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.

Additionally, family members of these qualifying citizens are included in this arrangement, allowing them to enter Spain without a full passport when accompanied by or related to an eligible citizen. However, this ID card entry arrangement does not apply to citizens from African countries such as Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa, who are required to present a valid international passport and the appropriate visa when seeking entry into Spain.

This policy reflects a broader trend in Europe, where regional agreements simplify entry requirements for certain travelers.
