Delta State Assembly Backs State Police Bill for Security

The Delta State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Emomotimi Guwor, expressed strong support for the state police bill, which recently passed its second reading in the Nigerian Senate. Guwor described the bill as a significant step toward enhancing security and addressing local challenges.

He noted that establishing a community-based police structure would improve security responses and public safety across the 36 state legislatures in Nigeria. Guwor assured that the state assemblies would carefully consider the proposed constitutional amendments related to the bill, engaging stakeholders and conducting necessary public hearings.

He commended the Senate for advancing the bill and urged stakeholders to continue discussions to ensure a safer Nigeria. The Senate's passage of the constitutional alteration bill, which seeks to establish state police, followed a rigorous voting process, requiring a two-thirds majority in the Senate.
