Speed Violations Top Cause of Road Crashes in Nigeria Q3 2025

Speed violations remained the top cause of road crashes in Nigeria during the third quarter of 2025, with 2,284 cases reported across the country. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) provided data indicating a 3.9% decrease from the previous quarter.

Other contributing factors included phone usage while driving, tyre bursts, mechanical vehicle deficiencies, brake failures, and overloading. The study emphasized the importance of implementing realistic driver training, installing speed limit devices in vehicles, and constructing traffic calming devices in residential areas and near schools.

The data also revealed a decrease in road accidents compared to the previous quarter but an increase from the same period last year, with serious cases outnumbering fatal and minor incidents.
