SSANU Issues Strike Ultimatum Over University Issues

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), led by President Muhammad Ibrahim, has issued a firm ultimatum to the federal government following their 54th National Executive Council meeting held at Ekiti State University from March 26-27, 2026. The union expressed grave concerns over the slow pace and inconclusive nature of ongoing renegotiations regarding labor issues within the university system.

SSANU demands that the federal government conclude the renegotiation process and sign an agreement by April 30, 2026, or face industrial action. The union condemned persistent salary delays affecting staff at federal and state universities, which have caused severe hardship for members and their families.

Additionally, SSANU criticized the government's handling of a previously agreed N50 billion disbursement from 2022 and called for immediate payment of outstanding salaries. The union also highlighted the need for urgent investment in digital infrastructure and warned of the impact of underfunding on the university system.
