NIMC Mandates NIN for 2026 SSCE Candidates in Nigeria

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued a final advisory stating that no student will be allowed to sit for the 2026 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) without a National Identification Number (NIN). This directive was communicated through an official post on the commission's social media platform on Friday.

The NIMC emphasized that the NIN is no longer merely an academic tool but a mandatory requirement for school registration, scholarship applications, and government benefits. Parents are urged to ensure their children possess a valid NIN, which is essential for school registration and examination participation.

To facilitate this process, the NIMC has decentralized its operations by launching a ward enrollment strategy, allowing students to register closer to their communities. The commission has also provided a digital tool to help parents locate the nearest enrollment centers.

The advisory highlights that the registration process is free of charge and warns the public against unauthorized agents.
