NIMC Launches Ward-Level NIN Enrollment Drive in Nigeria

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is intensifying its ward-level National Identification Number (NIN) enrollment initiative, which commenced on February 16, 2026. This program is designed to bring registration services closer to the grassroots by decentralizing the enrollment process at the ward level across states and federal capital territories.

According to NIMC spokesman Dr. Kayode Adegoke, the NIN is crucial for accessing essential government and financial services and serves as the backbone of Nigeria's identity management system.

The commission emphasizes that possessing a NIN is mandatory for participation in various public and private sector services. NIMC encourages Nigerians who have not yet registered to take advantage of this decentralized exercise by visiting designated centers within their wards.

The agency also provides accurate verification information through its official website and social media platforms to curb misinformation. Additionally, NIMC offers a self-service modification platform for individuals to update their data and encourages the download of the NIN Auth app for secure digital verification.
