ICT Stakeholders Urge Improved Connectivity for 2027 Elections

As Nigeria gears up for the 2027 general elections, stakeholders in the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector have called for enhanced broadband and internet connectivity to facilitate a seamless electoral process. This discussion took place at The Nigeria eGovernment Summit and Awards 2026 in Lagos, themed ‘Mainstreaming Technologies in Nigeria Election Management.’ Asso.

Prof. Justin Beshel, the Commissioner for Science and Technology in Cross River State, highlighted that while technology exists in Nigeria, its effectiveness is contingent upon the environment in which it operates. He pointed out significant challenges, particularly the lack of reliable broadband for last-mile connectivity in remote areas, which hampers the electoral process.

Beshel stressed the necessity of building infrastructure and a supportive policy environment for technology to thrive in elections. Additionally, Mrs. Happiness Obioha, CEO of Tizel Cybersecurity, emphasized the importance of establishing a secure and trusted digital election ecosystem to enhance voter confidence and governance.
