Stakeholders Urge Stronger Climate Action in Nigeria

Stakeholders in Nigeria convened in Abuja to advocate for stronger climate action, recognizing climate change as an immediate threat affecting communities across the country. Dr.

Parri Benson, Executive Director of JSDI, emphasized the need for collective action among citizens, government, and organizations to protect the environment. The conference aimed to translate climate discussions into practical actions that safeguard future generations.

Adejok Orelop Adefulir, Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDGs, explained that achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development requires partnerships with civil society, media, and the private sector. Dr.

Ik Neliaku from the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations described climate change as one of the greatest threats to humanity, urging journalists to educate the public on environmental issues. Folusho Adeogun from the Nigeria Customs Service highlighted initiatives to promote environmentally friendly practices, including a green tax policy and incentives for cleaner transportation.

The conference concluded with a call for Nigerians to adopt environmentally responsible lifestyles and support renewable energy initiatives.
