Stakeholders Advocate Solar Generators Amid Rising Fuel Costs

Stakeholders are intensifying calls for the widespread adoption of solar generators in Nigeria as fuel costs rise. A joint statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja by Ze Gen, GOGLA, and Verasol emphasized the significant opportunity for expanding solar generation solutions.

According to a recent report titled "Understanding Nigeria's Fossil Fuel Generation Challenges," approximately 41 million small businesses and 17 million households depend on petrol and diesel generators, costing Nigerians $8 billion annually in fuel expenses. The report indicates that standard solar generator systems can meet 85% of typical energy demand, eliminating recurring fuel costs and reducing exposure to volatile energy prices.

Lili Beadl, the Program Director at Ze Gen, stated that the initiative aims to demonstrate the viability of solar technology across the country. Sarah Odumwegu Ojukwu from GOGLA noted that solar generators provide a reliable alternative for households and businesses, highlighting the potential for investment and the need for increased funding to scale solutions for clean, reliable power in Nigeria.
