Stakeholders Call for Boost in Local Cooking Gas Production to Stabilize Prices

Stakeholders in the oil and gas sector are urging the Nigerian government to boost local production of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to stabilize prices and ensure domestic supply. The Chairman of the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Retail Association of Nigeria (LPGAR), Ayobami Olarinoy, emphasized the need for compliance among licensed operators and better coordination with refineries to address price disparities.

Recent price spikes in cooking gas have been attributed to supply challenges rather than deliberate price manipulation. Retail prices have gradually returned to normal levels, ranging from N1,200 to N1,500 per kilogram.

The need for expanding local gas infrastructure and enhancing product supply distribution systems is crucial to meet the demand and ensure affordability for consumers.
