Stakeholders Demand 2028 Governorship Slot for Imo Areas

Stakeholders from Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta in Imo State have called for the 2028 governorship slot to be zoned to their local government areas. During a press conference held in Owerri, the group, represented by Dr.

John Donald Ikegwuruka, expressed grievances regarding the historical exclusion of these areas from political power since the creation of the state in 1976. They highlighted the region's wealth in oil and gas resources, yet noted the lack of essential amenities such as roads, hospitals, and schools, leading to significant suffering among the populace.

The stakeholders emphasized the need for a charter of equity to ensure fair political representation and address long-standing grievances. They urged the current governor, Hope Uzodimma, to respect the contributions of these oil-rich areas and to consider their appeal for the governorship slot, asserting that the people of Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta are ready to lead the state towards greater development.
