Tinubu Urges Senate to Amend Constitution for State Police

On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu called on the Senate to initiate constitutional amendments aimed at creating state police in Nigeria. He made this appeal during an interfaith iftar gathering at the Presidential Villa.

Tinubu emphasized that establishing state police would enhance the nation's security framework, particularly in the fight against insurgency and other forms of violence. He noted that 36 governors across the country have previously supported discussions regarding state police, which gained traction following a report from the National Economic Council (NEC).

During his address, Tinubu expressed a commitment to ensuring the welfare and security of Nigerians, urging collective action to address the significant challenges posed by terrorism and banditry. He highlighted the importance of unity and cooperation among various entities in Nigeria to foster a safer environment for all citizens.
