Sokoto First Lady Empowers 300 Women Graduates with Skills

On September 22, Dr. Hajiya Fatima Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, the First Lady of Sokoto State, addressed 300 women graduates of a state-sponsored vocational training scheme during their graduation ceremony. She encouraged them to maximize their newly acquired skills and resist the temptation to sell their start-up equipment and capital grants.

The training covered six high-demand trades: tailoring, knitting, weaving, henna artistry, beadwork, and shoe/bag manufacturing, with 50 women trained in each trade. The Sokoto State Government invested over N150 million in this empowerment initiative.

The support package included tailored grants: N20,000 for tailoring and knitting, N100,000 for shoe and bag manufacturing, and N50,000 for bead making, henna artistry, and weaving. Dr. Fatima emphasized the importance of human capital development and youth empowerment in the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.

She also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of various ministries and the impact of federal initiatives like the Renewed Hope Initiative led by Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
