IGP Disu Submits 75-Page Framework for State Police

On Thursday, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu submitted a comprehensive 75-page framework to the Senate, proposing the establishment of a state police system in Nigeria. This submission was made on behalf of the police chief Olu Ogunsakin, who chairs the Nigeria Police Force Committee tasked with developing the framework.

The document outlines a structured governance and coordination mechanism for a federal-state police system and aims to provide a roadmap for integrating it into Nigeria's existing security architecture. The IGP's submission follows extensive consultations and assessments regarding the complexities surrounding the creation of state police.

The framework is expected to contribute meaningfully to ongoing deliberations and assist lawmakers in making informed decisions regarding national security reforms. Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau commended the IGP for this proactive intervention, assuring that the Senate Committee would give due consideration to the framework alongside other memoranda submitted by stakeholders.
