Tinubu's Bill for State Police Received by House of Reps

The House of Representatives has received a bill from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding the constitutional amendment for the establishment of state police. This bill follows the House's earlier resolution in June 2026 to create a state police service, which was rescinded on Tuesday.

In a letter to Speaker Abba Tajudeen, President Tinubu described the proposal as a critical step toward reorganizing Nigeria's security architecture to better protect citizens. The bill includes additional safeguards to ensure the creation of a dual police structure is implemented quickly.

The motion to rescind the earlier resolution was passed by the chairman of the House Committee on Rules and Business, Francis Waive. The House will now convene a committee to harmonize the bill with the Senate's counterpart.

The adoption of the bill is set to be conducted through a voice vote.
