ADC Criticizes FG Over Misleading GDP Growth Claims

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) issued a statement on Wednesday, criticizing the Federal Government of Nigeria for its claims regarding GDP growth. Bolaji Abdullahi, representing the ADC, stated that the reported figures do not reflect the harsh economic realities faced by ordinary Nigerians.

The party accused the government of using GDP statistics to obscure the deep economic suffering experienced nationwide, including soaring food prices, persistent inflation, declining purchasing power, and rising unemployment. The ADC emphasized that economic growth should translate into improved living standards and job creation, rather than merely being a statistic.

They highlighted that while Nigeria's GDP is projected to rise to $307 billion by 2025, the macroeconomic indicators alone do not determine the well-being of citizens. The statement came amid ongoing debates about the impacts of the Federal Government's economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidies and foreign exchange adjustments, which have contributed to rising living costs across the country.
