SDP Candidate Critiques Nigeria's Electoral Process

Obinna Simon Tagway, the chairmanship candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council representing the Social Democratic Party (SDP), expressed significant frustration regarding the current state of Nigeria's electoral process during an interview on Channel Television's Sunrise Daily on Saturday. He suggested that traditional campaigning methods are ineffective, arguing that candidates should instead focus on bringing money to buy votes.

Tagway lamented that the resources spent on political consultations and public campaigns appear wasted, as the highest bidder often prevails. He emphasized that money has become a dominant influence, leading candidates to ignore elector engagement until the voting day.

Tagway raised concerns about the authenticity of Nigeria's democratic journey, stating that the system no longer reflects the true will of the people and that the electoral process has become increasingly pre-determined. He warned that the shift towards a cash-based electoral system poses a direct threat to the development of the Abuja Municipal Area Council and the country at large.
