Presidency Critiques Peter Obi Over Debt Claims and Leadership

The Presidency, represented by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, has publicly criticized Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Onanuga's remarks, made via his verified X handle, urged Obi to stop misleading Nigerians with "sermons." This criticism is set against the backdrop of a debt scandal involving Anambra State, where Governor Chukwuma Soludo's administration stated it is still repaying debts incurred during Obi's tenure as governor from 2006 to 2014.

Onanuga pointed out that despite Anambra's $4.05 billion in spending and significant borrowing, the state was not transformed under Obi's leadership. He labeled Obi's eight years as an "unmitigated failure," accusing him of masking this with revisionist narratives.

Additionally, Onanuga referenced a reported four-year single-term agreement between Obi and his running mate, which contradicts the two-term, eight-year provision of the 1999 Constitution.
