NSCIA Urges Unity Against Ethnic Framing of Crimes

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), represented by spokesperson Abba Jimoh, issued a statement urging against the ethnic and religious characterization of banditry and kidnapping in Nigeria. The NSCIA criticized recent attempts to link these crimes to specific ethnic or religious groups, asserting that such associations are misleading and detrimental to national unity.

The statement referenced a recent kidnapping incident in the Orir local government area of Oyo State, clarifying that suspects should be identified and prosecuted based on evidence rather than ethnic or religious identity. The NSCIA expressed concern over the broader security challenges facing Nigeria, including terrorism and banditry, which continue to displace communities and hinder development.

They condemned all forms of violence and encouraged media and opinion leaders to report responsibly to avoid deepening divisions and mistrust among Nigerians. The council commended the federal government and security agencies for their efforts to tackle insecurity and called for greater cooperation to restore peace.
