NCAA Urges Airlines to Ensure Transparency in Delays

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has issued a warning to airlines regarding the importance of transparency during flight delays. Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at NCAA, made this statement on Tuesday, urging airlines to provide accurate information to passengers about the reasons for delays.

He highlighted that misleading passengers during prolonged delays can cause unnecessary stress and confusion. Achimugu specifically called for airlines to disclose the true reasons for lengthy delays, particularly when fuel issues are involved, rather than allowing passengers to wait with false hope.

He noted that passengers affected by delays might include individuals with important commitments, such as visa interview applicants and business travelers. Capt. Chris Najomo, the Director General of Civil Aviation, expressed similar concerns, emphasizing the need for airlines to enhance their operational monitoring and communication with consumers.

Achimugu also stressed the necessity of providing accommodations for stranded passengers during late-night delays.
